John J. Painter is an associate at Ashman Law Offices, LLC, and has been with the firm since 2013. Mr. Painter graduated from the University of Illinois College of Business with High Honors. Upon graduation, he accepted the Edward T. Lee full tuition scholarship to attend John Marshall Law School. At John Marshall, he participated in the Review of Intellectual Property Law, and received two CALI Awards for earning top grades in Sports Law and Intellectual Property Law. Mr. Painter worked at the John Marshall Veterans Legal Support Center and Clinic as well as the Pro Bono Clinic in his time at the school, and he additionally earned a Juris Doctor Certificate of Concentration in Intellectual Property for taking a requisite number of courses in the area of IP law.
Mr. Painter concentrates his practice in business litigation, corporate transactions, and intellectual property law. He has engaged in a wide variety of legal matters at ALO, including corporate formation and corporate counseling, creditor’s rights, contract negotiation and formation, and business litigation, gaining valuable hands on experience that his contemporaries at large firms miss.
Mr. Painter also serves as a General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and Board Member of Camp Kids Are Kids Chicago, a Section 501(c)(3) not-for-profit and cost-free camp for children living with cancer. He is a member of both the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. In his free time, he enjoys watching and playing sports, and engaging in filmmaking, including clips featured on ESPN’s SportsNation and a Purina PetCare Company commercial.
