CORPORATE, COMMERCIAL & BUSINESS LITIGATION

The heart of ALO's litigation practice involves the zealous representation of businesses and individuals in disputes arising from corporate, commercial or business transactions. ALO's attorneys have successfully litigated matters involving breach of contract actions, including contracts concerning asset purchase agreements, partnership agreements, licensing agreements, insurance contracts, real estate contracts, and dealer/distributor contracts. Its attorneys have also prosecuted and defended actions involving claims of business torts, breaches of fiduciary duty, and corporate fraud or wrongdoing. Included within this practice area is the litigation of issues arising from claims of unfair business competition, trademark and copyright infringement, and defamation.

CLASS ACTIONS

ALO's attorneys have extensive experience in both defending and prosecuting class actions. Its practice in this area includes suits concerning construction disasters, shareholder rights, consumer protection, human rights, insurance-related matters, products liability issues, and whistleblower actions. This is one of ALO's fastest growing areas and one in which it takes great pride.

SECURITIES AND SHAREHOLDER LITIGATION

ALO attorneys have represented issuers, officers and directors, and shareholders in suits arising under the federal and state securities laws and the related common law. We have also served as counsel in shareholder derivative suits, protecting both the rights of corporations and of shareholders.

EMPLOYMENT LITIGATION

Employment law covers a complex network of laws that control how employers must treat employees, former employees, and applicants for employment. ALO attorneys have significant experience in interpreting and cons ruing state and federal statutes and case law in areas such as employment discrimination, affirmative actions, sexual harassment, employee benefits, whistleblower litigation, wrongful discharge, employment contracts, the Americans with Disabilities Act and a variety of other federal employment laws. ALO also has significant experience litigating and negotiating employment controversies involving restrictive covenants, noncompete agreements and trade secrets.

INSURANCE LITIGATION

ALO's attorneys have represented a number of insurance companies in a variety of settings, with particular experience litigating life insurance-related matters. Its attorneys have defended such insurers in class actions and individual suits that alleged marketplace fraud and misrepresentation, breaches of contract and of fiduciary duty, and negligence. Its attorneys have played a key role in negotiating and drafting novel settlements, thereby affording policyowners with extensive benefits while protecting the rights of insurers. With the importance that insurance plays in virtually any litigation, the benefit of having attorneys experienced in insurance litigation is immeasurable.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LITIGATION

Intellectual Property involves the creation and use of trademarks, trade secrets, works of authorship, copyrights and patents, all of which raise the potential of being infringed. With the exception of patent litigation, ALO serves to protect those who own or license valuable intellectual property by initiating litigation against infringers or by defending nonmeritious suits brought by infringers.

CIVIL RIGHTS

ALO has a significant practice in the area of Civil Rights which involves fundamental issues of human rights and freedoms. We represent clients who have been victims of police misconduct, sexual harassment, and discrimination.
